Amanda Reid, Emily Petricola double 2024 para-cycling track world titles tally in Rio
Mar 26, 2024
Amanda Reid and Emily Petricola have won the ARA Australian Cycling Team's third and fourth world championships of the 2024 UCI Para-cycling Track World Championships in Rio de Janiero, Brazil.
Reid regained the C2 scratch race world title and won the 12th para-cycling track world championship of her career with a controlled performance in the combined Women C1-C2 Scratch Race at Rio Olympic Velodrome.
The 27-year-old was patient throughout the 40-lap race and launched her race-winning attack as the bell rang for the final lap.
Petricola ended her Rio campaign a day earlier in the Women C4 Scratch Race, winning a silver medal after falling short of chasing down China's Li Xiaohui.
The 39-year-old's silver medal clinched the Women C4 Omnium rainbow jersey by four points, bringing up her 10th para-cycling track world championship, and her second rainbow jersey of 2024.
ARA Australian Cycling Team debutant Korey Boddington won his maiden world championship medal in the Men C4 1000m Time Trial, earning a silver medal.
Boddington was joined by teammate Michael Shippley on the podium in the bronze medal position.
The 1000m time trial success continued courtesy of Gordon Allan winning silver in the Men C2 category, his first non-bronze medal since winning the same medal in the same event back in 2019.
Gordon Allan, Michael Shippley and Korey Boddington were impressive in the Mixed C Team Sprint bronze medal final, defeating France by 0.334 seconds.
Alistair Donohoe won bronze in the Men C5 Scratch Race, sprinting home in third after a frenetic, attack-filled race.
Tandem pairing Jessica Gallagher and Caitlin Ward won their second bronze medal of the week in Women B Sprint, defeating Italy in the bronze medal final after a narrowly missing out on a berth in the gold medal final.
Four medals on the fifth and final day of competition in Rio de Janeiro pushed the ARA Australian Cycling Team to fourth on the overall medal table for the 2024 UCI Para-cycling Track World Championships behind China, Great Britain and France.
