Amanda Reid wins fifth straight C2 500m TT world championship

Amanda Reid's world championship domination of the Women C2 500m Time Trial has reached five consecutive wins on Day 2 of the 2024 UCI Para-cycling Track World Championships in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The 27-year-old stopped the clock at 39.041 to secure the rainbow jersey by 4.633 seconds in the final at Rio Olympic Velodrome and win the first medal of the championships for the ARA Australian Cycling Team.
Reid was in another bracket of speed compared to her rivals in both qualifying and the final, setting her fastest time of the day in the morning session at 38.981 seconds, 4.829 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor.
The win is Reid's sixth Women C2 500m Time Trial world championship since 2017 and looks set to be in prime position to defend her Paralympic gold medal in this event in Paris later this year.

Jessica Gallagher and Caitlin Ward win bronze in women's tandem 1000m time trial
Jessica Gallagher and pilot Caitlin Ward have finished with a bronze medal in the Women B 1000m Time Trial to close out Day 2 in Rio.
The pair found themselves sandwiched between three Great Britain tandems throughout the day, with the British tandems finishing in first, second and fourth in both the final and qualifying.
Gallagher and Ward went faster in the final, finishing in a time of 1:08.192, 0.792 seconds behind new world champions Lizzi Jordan and Danni Khan.
The time set by the Australians is marginally faster than their silver medal-winning time of 1:08.362 set in Glasgow last year.
