Nine-time champion Carol Cooke added to Worlds squad for ARA Australian Cycling Team

Aug 26, 2024

The ARA Australian Cycling Team has been bolstered by the addition of Carol Cooke to its roster for next month’s UCI Para-cycling Road World Championships in Zurich.

The veteran tricyclist is a nine-time world champion and triple Paralympic gold medallist in the T2 road race and individual time trial.

Cooke last raced for the ARA Australian Cycling Team at the UCI World Cup round in Adelaide in January.

She was ill and unavailable for selection when the AusCycling National Selection Panel chose the six original team members earlier this year.

The 63-year-old has since received a full medical clearance to return to training and racing, triggering her selection for the World Championships.

“Carol is a proven champion of the sport and a leader in the para-cycling community, as well as within the ARA Australian Cycling Team,” said Jesse Korf, AusCycling’s Executive General Manager of Performance and the convenor of the selection panel.

“Her ability to come back from illness and injury and still compete at the highest level is nothing short of inspiring. She will bring all her experience to the team at these World Championships.”

This year’s Para-cycling Road World Championships will be held alongside the able-bodied UCI Road World Championships in Zurich, Switzerland from September 21−29.
