Darren Hicks: Q&A with ARA Australian Cycling Team

Darren Hicks has already achieved more than he could have ever imagined at the highest level of para-cycling.
World record: tick. Olympic gold medallist: tick. World Champion: tick, tick.
In 2019, Hicks became a dual world champion in the road individual time trial, as well as in the C2 3km individual pursuit on the track. It was in the latter event that he also set a world record time of 3:33.2 mins
At the Tokyo Paralympics Hicks won a gold medal in the C2 road time trial, and a silver in the individual pursuit.

What's your ideal holiday? Anywhere in Italy
When and how did you learn to ride a bike? Not sure on age, but very early, and in the backyard I'd imagine
How did you get into the sport competitively? I raced BMX from 10, but Road & Track was more so for rehab after my MVA
What's your favourite place/track to ride? We have a 2-3 hour loop in Varese from the European Training Center, the scenery is just gorgeous
Who is/was your sporting idol? BMX was Garry Ellis. Sport in general was Tiger or Jordan
What has been one of your career highlights? Has to be my Gold in the Road TT at the Tokyo Games
What do you hope to have achieved by the end of your career? I've honestly ticked off all of my dreams in cycling, so what happens now is all just icing on the cake.
