Glasgow Daily - August 11
Aug 11, 2023
Another day, another set of rainbows: this time to Felicity Wilson-Haffenden, the young Tasmanian who’s become the junior women time trial world champion. Her rapid rise in cycling – which she only took up because of the COVID pandemic – is remarkable. Now she’s at the top of the world!
Fliss’s was not the only great Aussie performance against the clock. Grace Brown produced another stunning Worlds time trial to win her second silver medal. To fall short of victory by just 5.67 seconds must have been agonising, but credit where it’s due: that was an exceptional ride.
Over in Dumfries, our para-cyclists collected three silver medals in the road time trial. Congratulations to Emily Petricola, Darren Hicks and Alana Forster on some strong rides.
Down at Glentress Forest, there are good signs for Australia in cross-country MTB, with Rebecca Henderson placing fifth in the short-track event. We’re looking forward to seeing her racing XCO on Saturday.
Back in Glasgow, our BMX racers had their first proper training session today. One more hit-out tomorrow and then we race. And former world champion Janine Jungfels has finished 9th in Trials at Glasgow Green. There’s a bit happening!
