Your guide to track cycling at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games

Tom Cornish of the Australian Cycling Team leads the men's team pursuit squad in training at a staging camp ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland

The countdown is on for four action-packed days of track cycling and Para cycling at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, with Australia’s 25-strong team ready to chase gold at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome.

From reigning Commonwealth Games champions to exciting young debutants, the green-and-gold squad will contest every available track cycling and Para cycling event as Australia looks to continue its proud Commonwealth Games legacy. Six gold medallists from Birmingham 2022 return alongside a new generation of riders ready to make their mark.

Here’s everything you need to know before the racing begins.

When will the track cycling events be held?

Track cycling events will take place across four days from Thursday 30th July to Sunday 2nd August at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow, Scotland.

Unlike previous editions of the Commonwealth Games, Glasgow 2026 features a track-only cycling program, with 26 medal events across the competition. New to the schedule are the men’s and women’s elimination races, adding another thrilling event to an already action-packed schedule.

What makes track cycling a must-watch?

Few sports deliver drama quite like track cycling. Every session offers a different spectacle, from the high-speed precision of the team pursuit, where four riders must work in perfect harmony; to the cat-and-mouse tactics of the sprint, where races can be won or lost in a split second.

Then, there’s the explosive chaos of the keirin, the strategic ‘chess on wheels’ of the points race, and the devastating heartbreak of the elimination race, where one rider is knocked out every two laps until only the winner remains.

Add in plenty of Australian medal opportunities across sprint, endurance, and Para cycling events, and fans will have no shortage of reasons to tune in.

As if the racing wasn’t compelling enough, there’s also a subplot worthy of a Netflix drama with Australia’s men’s sprinters set to go head-to-head against former teammate Matthew Richardson, who will line up in England colours for the first time at a Commonwealth Games.
