ARA Australian Cycling Team downhill squad complete for UCI MTB World Championships

Jul 14, 2025

AusCycling has confirmed the elite downhill squad selected to represent the ARA Australian Cycling Team at the 2025 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships in Valais, Switzerland.

The team announced by the AusCycling National Selection Panel, includes seven men and three women.

Leading the men’s contingent is veteran campaigner Troy Brosnan, who will contest his 15th World Championships.

The Adelaide rider is a consistent force in international downhill racing and last claimed a UCI Mountain Bike World Championship bronze medal in 2021.

Brosnan heads into Valais following strong form in 2025, having secured second place at the WHOOP UCI Mountain Bike World Series round in Val di Sole, alongside a silver medal at the GWM Mountain Bike National Championships in Mt Buller earlier in the year.

Joining him is Luke Meier-Smith, the reigning Oceania and National Champion, who will make his sixth World Championship appearance. Meier-Smith is determined to bounce back after a challenging 53rd-place finish in 2024.

Oliver Davis returns to the team after an impressive top 10 finish at last year’s World Championships in Andorra, reaffirming his potential at the elite level.

Also returning is Kye A’Hern, the former UCI Junior Mountain Bike Downhill World Champion and 2025 GWM Mountain Bike National Championships bronze medallist, alongside Jackson Frew, who took out the Crankworx Cairns downhill title in May.

Carter Sloan will make his elite World Championship debut in Valais. Sloan earned his selection with consistent top 10 finishes at the Oceania Championships, National Championships, and Crankworx Cairns.

On the women’s side, Sian A’Hern, the reigning champion from the 2025 GWM Mountain Bike National Championships, will make her fifth World Championships appearance, bringing experience to the squad.

Elise Empey, who began her season recovering from injury after a crash earlier in the year, has made a successful return to racing, most recently competing at the UCI World Cup in Andorra as she builds back her form.

Sacha Mills, from Queensland, completes the women’s lineup after securing silver at the National Championships and following up with a bronze medal performance at Crankworx Cairns.
