ARA Australian Cycling Team's downhillers hit the legendary slope of Champery

Fourteen years since Troy Brosnan was crowned junior world champion in Champery, he returns to the legendary Swiss slope looking to etch his name into the elite history books.

Brosnan will lead the charge for the ARA Australian Cycling Team’s downhill squad this weekend at the 2025 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships.

Renowned for its steep, technical terrain, Champéry holds a special place in Australian mountain biking history as the stage for Sam Hill’s unforgettable 2007 World Cup run.

And Brosnan, will be hungry for his own success in Champery. The Adelaide star recently claimed fourth at the Les Gets World Cup in treacherous wet conditions, underlining his ability to rise on demanding terrain.

Brosnan will be joined by national champion Luke Meier-Smith, determined to turn around a season that hasn’t gone to plan, and fellow Aussie contenders Kye A’Hern, Ollie Davis, Jackson Frew, Carter Sloane, and Jackson Connelly.

Each brings a blend of international experience to a squad brimming with potential.

In the women’s field, Elise Empey makes her return to World Championship racing after surgery just four months ago.

The Victorian has sharpened her form training with the Atherton Race Team at Dyfi Bike Park in Wales and arrives with fire in her belly after a disrupted season.

Queenslander Sacha Mills will also line up, carrying the scars of two heavy crashes in the muddy chaos of the Les Gets World Cup but determined to leave nothing on the mountain come Sunday.

Adding to the green and gold presence, 10 junior riders will proudly don the Australian jersey in Switzerland gaining invaluable experience as they test themselves against the best young downhillers in the world.
