ARA Australian Cycling Team selected for Tour de l'Avenir
Jul 21, 2025
AusCycling has announced the ARA Australian Cycling Team for the 2025 Tour de l’Avenir.
The six-rider squad will contest the premier stage race for under-23 men, which this year runs concurrently with the Tour de l’Avenir Femmes from August 23–29 in the east of France and north-west of Italy.
Luke Tuckwell will line up for the second time at the ‘Race of the Future’ on the back of a stellar performance at the Giro d’Italia Next Gen where he finished 2nd overall.
Joining him is national U23 time trial champion Zac Marriage, who returns for his third consecutive Tour de l’Avenir, and Fergus Browning who also raced at last year’s edition.
Making his debut for the Australian team is national U23 road race champion Julian Baudry.
Rounding out the squad are fellow debutants talented all-rounder Jackson Medway, and promising climber Jack Ward – who won last year’s ProVelo Super League and recently signed a contract with Lidl-Trek Future Racing.
A steep uphill prologue begins this year’s Tour from Tignes, followed by six road stages with a hilly and mountainous parcours.
The final stage consists of two separate half-stages, offering a mountain finale with a challenging time trial up La Rosiére.
Outside of World Championships, the Tour de l’Avenir is viewed as the most important race for under-23 riders, and has crowned champions such as Tadej Pogacar, Isaac Del Toro and Egan Bernal.
“Tour de l’Avenir brings together the best up and coming cycling talent in the world. It is an opportunity for our pathway athletes to test themselves at the highest level showing their performance as well as gaining valuable international racing experience,” AusCycling Director of Pathways Donna Rae-Szalinski said.
