Jack Haig withdraws from Tokyo 2020

Jul 13, 2021

AusCycling can confirm that Jack Haig has withdrawn from the Australian Olympic Team for the Tokyo 2020 Games.

Haig fractured his collarbone after crashing during the third stage of the Tour de France in late June.

Haig was hoping to recover in time for the Olympic men’s road race on July 24, however, as he is now facing a longer recovery period, he has made the decision to withdraw from the Team.

AusCycling wishes Jack all the best with his recovery.

Jack Haig

Unfortunately, my fracture was much worse than first expected. The surgery was long and more invasive than normal, making the recovery period longer. Unfortunately, this means I will be missing out on the Olympics.

The Australian Olympic Committee has been very understanding and allowed me the maximum amount of time for my recovery, but with the longer recovery period now I'm not going to ready in time.
