ARA Australian Cycling Team junior squad selected for 2025 UCI Road World Championships

Seven junior riders have been selected to represent the ARA Australian Cycling Team at the 2025 UCI Road World Championships in Kigali, Rwanda.  

Three men and three women have been named in the squad by the AusCycling National Selection Panel today, with a fourth male rider notified of selection subject to the final allocation of UCI quota spots. 

All seven members were part of the ARA Australian Cycling Team European road development camp in May, and will race for rainbow jerseys and world championship medals this September. 

Junior men’s time trial national champion Max Goold will travel to Kigali as the only returning member of the junior team from the 2024 UCI Road Cycling World Championships in Zurich, Switzerland.    

In Europe, Goold has two top-10 GC finishes this season including third overall at Grand Prix Fernand Durel, as well as finishing second in the mountain classification.

Joining him is Lucas Stevenson who will be making his World Championships debut in Kigali as the youngest member of the squad.  

Currently in his second year with the Cannibal – Victorious U19 Development Team, the 17-year-old has impressed with his current form in Europe finishing third on GC at Tour du Pays de Vaud, where he also won the queen stage.

Fellow debutant, Queenslander Fletcher Medway has earned his spot with consistent results in Europe, including two top-10 stage results and 6th on GC at Trophée Centre Morbihan.  

Junior road national champion Alexander Hewes has also been selected subject to the allocation of UCI quota spots, which will be announced on August 19. 

For the women, Neve Parslow’s top-10 GC finish at Tour du Gévaudan Occitanie femmes saw her gain selection for her first World Championships. She showed great climbing strength to finish ninth overall and fifth in the youth classification. 

Winner of the U19 classification of the ProVelo Super League, Hannah Gianatti has continued her successful year in Europe with three podiums at Belgium one-day races so far this season.  

The 17-year-old rider from New South Wales got her first international win in May at Provinciaal Kampioenschap Vlaams-Brabant, followed by a second at Zedelgem and third at Prosper-Polder Kieldrecht. 

Queensland’s Tully Schweitzer completes ARA Australian Cycling Team junior road squad for Kigali. The 18-year-old is a promising young climber having finished 14th overall at Tour du Gévaudan Occitanie femmes and 5th at Grafton to Inverell classic.  

AusCycling Director of Pathways – Performance Donna Rae-Szalinski said the squad was a promising group of talent that had strong potential across a demanding course. 

“The UCI Road World Championships course in Kigali will be very challenging with the demands of significant elevation gain at altitude,” Rae-Szalinski said. 

“This group of talented young riders have each proven their capabilities on hilly terrain and possess the qualities to tackle a course of this nature.” 

The junior individual time trial world championships will be held on September 23 for the men and women.   

The junior road race world championships will be raced on September 26 for men, and September 27 for the women.
