Preview: ARA Australian Cycling Team ready to battle at UCI Gravel World Championships

The rainbow jerseys are up for grabs in Nannup, Western Australia this weekend, as the UCI Gravel World Championships land on Australian soil for the first time.

A deep roster for the ARA Australian Cycling Team will line up on home turf, ready to go head-to-head with the world’s best and battle for elite men’s and women’s glory.

The Australian squad includes gravel national champion Tiffany Cromwell, who will be racing for the final time before retiring.

With more than 80 per cent of the course unpaved, the stage is set for a gruelling gravel showdown, that will not only test riders' endurance, but also their handling skills on loose sections of gravel.

The elite men will battle across 144km and 3,713 metres of elevation, while the elite women face 125.6km and 3,179 metres of climbing.

Here’s everything you need to know about our athletes chasing the rainbow jerseys, and when and where you can watch.

What they said

Tiffany Cromwell said: "I think I'm pretty content with my decision, and I'm excited to be able to do it on my terms, and here in Australia, like Nannup, it's not Adelaide, but it's as close as I can get to a home race, on the calendar.

“I've been here, I’ve raced SEVEN a couple of times, and it’s such a fantastic event. The team is amazing who put it on. They put so much passion into it.

“The course, it's super demanding, it's super hard. Of course, I've got many good memories here, but I also know, the field that has assembled for the elite women is pretty strong.

“Of course, the dream would be to finish with the rainbows or even just a podium, but also I don't want to put that pressure on myself.

“I want to just be here, be in the moment, enjoy the race, and just give everything that I have mentally, physically left in my body one last time, and just kind of enjoy the last race.”
