AusCycling is pleased to announce that Talia Appleton has been added to the ARA Australian Cycling Team for the 2025 UCI Road World Championships.

Appleton, from Mansfield Mt Buller Cycling Club in Victoria, will compete in the under-23 women's road race in Rwanda on 25 September.

Her selection comes after her outstanding performance at the Tour de l’Avenir Femmes. Appleton’s podium results and demonstrated potential made a compelling case for the National Selection Panel to include the 19-year-old in the world championship race, which will be contested on highly challenging parcours with 2,400 metres of elevation over 119 kilometres.

“Talia’s recent results speak for themselves,” said Jesse Korf, Executive General Manager of Performance at AusCycling. “Her performances at the Tour de l’Avenir were simply world-class, and with room for her addition in the team, we made the decision to offer a deserving athlete the opportunity to represent Australia on the world stage.”

Appleton will join Alli Anderson, Mackenzie Coupland and Felicity Wilson-Haffenden in Kigali, bringing fresh energy and ambition to the Australian squad as they compete in the first standalone under-23 women’s world championship road race.

“We're excited to see what the team can deliver in Rwanda,” added Korf. “All four riders have earned this opportunity, and we’re proud to support them as they represent Australia at a history-making event.”

Meanwhile, Neve Bradbury has withdrawn from the elite women’s road race for health reasons. As no selected reserve riders are available, Bradbury’s quota spot will not be filled.
